Child's blood pressure could be affected by bad nights sleep

A study released by Sleep Scientists in China has revealed that a bad nighst sleep will result in a spike in blood pressure for young children even if they are not overweight or obese.

One less hour of nightly sleep led to a 1 mm/Hg rise in diastolic blood pressure. The finding means that even though the overall effect of sleep loss on blood pressure was small, it could have implications for risk of heart disease in the future.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, children aged 5 to 12 need 10 to 11 hours of sleep. Teens need about 9.25 hours of sleep each night to function best, but for some, 8.5 hours is enough.

Here are some tips for bad sleepers:

Keep your room cool

Keep your room dark

Don't drink lots of liquids before bed

The Putnam childrens pillow & Memory foam childrens pillow is also great for letting younger children drift off, whilst also aligning the spine, a great Christmas present this year.
